It is the first hospital in Cyprus to implement Clinical Pathways. A team consisting of two doctors and five nurses was established and trained in Berlin Germany, by the Mc Kinsey Consultants. So far 6 clinical Pathways have been implemented and two are under development. The feedback from all the departments where Clinical Pathways have been implemented was positive despite the initial negative reaction and concerns stated by a number of the staff. Confidence of the staff and consistency in health care delivery together with a decrease in errors or omissions has been observed. The number of unnecessary blood tests and other investigations has decreased. Team work and communication among healthcare professionals improved. However their implementation was a complex procedure. The main challenge was change management and motivation of personnel rather than technical knowledge and competence in developing the pathways.
